PHILADELPHIA (August 1, 2024) –The Science Center, a catalyst of entrepreneurial activity and economic growth in the Philadelphia region and beyond, welcomes five new members to its board of directors following its Annual Meeting of Shareholders this July.

- Josh Gladden, PH.D, Vice President for Research, Temple University
- Kevin Mahoney, Chief Executive Officer, Penn Health Systems
- Ivy Silver, Ideation Strategist, Greater Philadelphia
“I am thrilled to welcome Ms. Carter, Dr. Generals, Dr. Gladden, Mr. Mahoney, and Ms. Silver as the newest members of our Board of Directors. Ms. Liv Carter is an experienced commercial banker holding a variety of positions in credit and business development across Business and Middle Market Banking. Currently, Liv is a Relationship Manager with TD Bank’s Commercial Banking Group. Prior to that, she was a Senior Relationship Manager with Wells Fargo Bank's Southern New Jersey Emerging Middle Market Group. Liv is passionate about serving the Greater Philadelphia community. As a longstanding Board Director for WBEC-East, Liv supports their mission as advocates for women business owners.
Dr. Donald Guy Generals became the sixth President of Community College of Philadelphia in 2014. As the chief executive officer, he guides Philadelphia’s only public institution of higher learning, which serves more than 35,000 students. Previously, Dr. Generals served as Vice President for Academic Affairs at Mercer County Community College in West Windsor, NJ. Dr. Generals serves on numerous boards including the Greater Philadelphia Chamber of Commerce, the Economy League of Greater Philadelphia, Philadelphia Works, the Mayor’s Reconciliation Steering Committee, and more.
Dr. Joseph (Josh) Gladden is Vice President for Research at Temple University. He oversees the research enterprise for the university, including strategic research initiatives, technology transfer, research integrity and compliance, and grant administration. He joins Temple after serving as the University of Mississippi’s vice chancellor for research and sponsored programs and professor of physics in the school’s Department of Physics.
Kevin B. Mahoney has been the Chief Executive Officer for the University of Pennsylvania Health System since 2019. Since joining Penn Medicine in 1996, Mr. Mahoney has led initiatives focused on improving patient experience and care efficiency in treatment settings. These include the recent creation of the Pavilion, a 1.5-million-square-foot, future-forward hospital, and the unification of the health system’s hospitals, clinics, and home care programs under one shared electronic health records platform. He has been named one of the “100 Most Influential People in Health Care” by Modern Healthcare and one of “100 Most Influential People in Philadelphia” by Philadelphia Magazine.
Ms. Ivy Silver is an Independent Director known for helping boards guide new alliances, advance business model iteration and lead governance processes that emphasize purposeful change. She is currently an Independent Director at Fulton Bank where she serves as the Chair of the Trust Committee and is the Finance Chair for a large regional Planned Parenthood. Ms. Silver has served in multiple leadership and advisory roles for organizations such as Aetna, Jefferson Health System, and the Academy of Natural Sciences of Drexel University. She also serves as a Philadelphia Pact advisor where she mentors several start-up companies in addition to her private Ideation practice.
