Veriflow Product Line To Detect Foodborne Pathogens Continues Expansion With Additional Aoac Approval

Philadelphia, PA (December 14, 2016) - Invisible Sentinel, Inc., a Philadelphia-based global molecular solutions company announced today that its Veriflow technology platform for the detection of STEC organisms received certification from the Association of Analytical Communities (AOAC).

STEC (shiga toxin producing Escherichia coli) species present a significant health risk and are among the most dangerous foodborne pathogens found in beef and plant foods today. It has been determined that pathogenicity of these organisms is linked to the expression of virulence factors that include shiga toxins (STX)1 & 2, as well as, EAE which mediates adherence to the intestinal wall.

E. coli species that express one or both shiga toxins in addition to EAE are the most likely to cause foodborne illness. Veriflow® STEC is a frontline testing solution which only provides the end-user with actionable information if organisms carry this combination of genes.

Veriflow® STEC utilizes the Company's proprietary DNA Signature Capture Technology and recently commercialized SSMA technology (Single Signal for Multiple Analytes) to exclusively detect organisms that encode for STX 1 and/or 2 expression AND EAE expression. Actionable and accurate data on the presence of these virulence factors allows food producers to be confident about product release decisions and the overarching safety of their products.

The AOAC is a global standardization organization that validates analytical test methods for the food industry. The AOAC Performance Tested MethodsSM designation is recognized by the US Department of Agriculture, the Food and Drug Administration, and global regulatory agencies.

With the certification of Veriflow® STEC, Invisible Sentinel has now achieved AOAC approvals for six assays designed to protect against illness due to foodborne pathogens including: Listeria species(Veriflow® LS), Listeria monocytogenes (Veriflow® LM), Salmonella species (Veriflow® SS), E. coli O157:H7 (Veriflow® 0157:H7), and Campylobacter species (Veriflow® CA).

Invisible Sentinel has also developed a suite of detection tools for spoilage organisms in wine, beer, and juice. Veriflow® STEC and other assays are available directly from Invisible Sentinel.
