OraSure has new board chairman for first time in over a decade

Bethlehem, PA – Diagnostic testing and specimen collection firm OraSure Technologies Inc. has a new chairman of the board for the first time since 2003.

The Bethlehem-based company said Tuesday that Stephen S. Tang had been named board chairman, replacing Douglas G. Watson, who had been chairman since 2003 and retired from the board on Nov 13.

"Steve has a broad range of executive leadership experience from the life sciences industry along with an extensive background in business and technology development matters," said OraSure President and CEO Douglas Michels. "Steve's demonstrated leadership and strong business skills will be invaluable in his new role as Chairman of the Board."

Tang is president and CEO of the University City Science Center, a Philadelphia-based innovation and entrepreneurship hub, and has been a member of the OraSure board of directors since April 2011. He has served as chairman of the board's compensation committee.

"During Doug's tenure as chairman, the company experienced significant growth and accomplished many noteworthy strategic objectives," Michels said.

S&P Global Market Intelligence lists Watson, 71, as a member of the board of directors of four biotech-related companies: OraSure, BioMimetic Therapeutics Inc., Wright Medical Technology, Inc. and Accelerated Pharma, Inc.
