Monica Cawvey Joins Science Center as VP Development

Monica Cawvey has joined the University City Science Center as Vice President of Development. In this newly created position, Monica is responsible for the overall strategic planning, development, implementation, and ongoing management of the Science Center’s comprehensive development and fundraising program.

"As we celebrate our 50th anniversary, the need to support startups and the creative economy in the Philadelphia region is greater than ever. Our new focus on fundraising will allow us to expand our existing programs and create new ones that will have a significant impact on innovation, entrepreneurship and our future tech workforce," says Science Center President & CEO Stephen S. Tang, Ph.D., MBA. Monica moved to Philadelphia in 2006 to oversee fundraising at the National Constitution Center, where she held the position of Vice President for Development for six years. Prior to that, Monica lived in Chicago, working in the Institutional Advancement offices of The Field Museum and the Museum of Science and Industry, as well as with Blackbaud as an Enterprise Software Consultant. Monica also spent eight years working on the residential staff and the faculty at the Missouri Scholars Academy, a summer program for gifted students held at the University of Missouri-Columbia campus. Additionally, she served on the faculty of the Religious Studies department and taught writing at the University of Missouri-Columbia, and taught literature and writing at the University of Chicago. Monica holds a Master's degree in History of Christianity from the University of Chicago Divinity School and a Bachelor's degree in English and Religious Studies, from the University of Missouri-Columbia. Originally from Missouri, Cawvey currently resides in Center City Philadelphia, where she is active in animal rescue as a volunteer for NYC Shiba Rescue and the Delaware County SPCA.
