Is climate change as critical as the economic downturn? Nobel Laureate Dr. John Byrne will share his thoughts at the Lunch for Hungry Minds program, September 22 at the University City Science Center’snew Quorum space.
Dr. Byrne shares the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize with former Vice President Al Gore and researchers of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). Dr. Byrne’s presentation, New Policy for New Weather, will focus on the issues we face as climate change becomes as critical a policy issue as the economic downturn. Byrne will discuss what solutions for climate change will work and what will not -- and if it’s possible to collectively address environmental, social and economic challenges.
Byrne is Director of the Center for Energy and Environmental Policy (CEEP) and Distinguished Professor of Energy and Climate Policy at the University of Delaware. He has contributed to Working Group III of the IPCC since 1992. His recent books include: “Energy and Environment: The Policy Challenge”, which addresses the global warming debate; and “Transforming Power”, which explores the prospects for significant changes in the world energy system in order to reverse human-induced climate change.
The Lunch for Hungry Minds seminar will take place from 11:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. at the Science Center’s new Quorum space at 3711 Market Street, Suite 800, Philadelphia. Lunch for Hungry Minds is a monthly series offered by the Science Center’s Port business incubator, which focuses on highlighting excellence in regional academic research. Founded in 2001, the Lunch for Hungry Minds series is just one example of programming that is available to residents of the Science Center’s Port business incubator.
