Dr. J. Larry Jameson Joins University City Science Center Board of Directors

PHILADELPHIA – (September 21, 2011) -- J. Larry Jameson, M.D., Ph.D. has been elected to the Board of Directors of the University City Science Center. Jameson is the executive vice president of the University of Pennsylvania for the Health System and dean of Penn’s Perelman School of Medicine, where he is responsible for the oversight and strategic management of all of Penn Medicine’s academic programs, research activities and clinical services.

An internationally recognized researcher, Jameson’s pioneering work in molecular endocrinology has greatly improved understanding of the transcription of endocrine genes and the genetic basis of reproductive and metabolic disorders. His work has helped bridge laboratory studies with clinical endocrinology. Jameson has authored more than 300 scientific articles and chapters, including studies that have been published in leading journals such as the New England Journal of Medicine, Nature Genetics, Science, and the Journal of Clinical Investigation.

Jameson was elected to the Institute of Medicine, the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, the American Society of Clinical Investigation and the Association of American Physicians. He has served as president of the Endocrine Society, as a member of the medical advisory board of the Howard Hughes Medical Institute, as a director of the American Board of Internal Medicine, and as a member of the Jury for the Lasker Award. He has also been the recipient of distinguished awards, including the Van Meter Award from the American Thyroid Association, Thomas G. Sheen Award from the American College of Surgeons, and Oppenheimer and Koch Awards from the Endocrine Society.

In related news, Arthur Rubenstein, former executive vice president of the University of Pennsylvania for the Health System and dean of Penn’s Perelman School of Medicine, has stepped down from the Science Center Board.
