The development of the COVID-19 vaccine underscores the strengths and successes of the U.S. biomedical enterprise. This advancement and others that prevent, treat, and cure a range of diseases, also highlights the impact of federal funding in bringing these advancements to life.

To improve the U.S. government’s capabilities to speed this type of research, President Biden has proposed the establishment of the Advanced Research Projects Agency for Health (ARPA-H). Included in the President’s FY2022 budget as a component of the NIH, ARPA-H will be tasked with building high-risk, high-reward capabilities to drive biomedical breakthroughs.
