About iRISE - Philadelphia

A unique collaboration between the Science Center and the UNCF, the Innovation and Research-Inspired STEM Entrepreneurship (iRISE) is a tech-entrepreneurial education and training pathway to accelerate STEM and life science startups led by diverse founders and promote diversity and inclusion in the technology transfer and commercialization professions.

iRISE is a multi-step program that provides opportunities for participants to hear from subject matter experts, meet STEM Innovators, and learn from diverse content providers on the realities of entrepreneurship and scientific commercialization through a phased approach.

iRISE participants will be able to choose from two pathways: Founders, for those interested in pursuing a business idea; and Fellows, for those interested technology transfer careers.

iRISE Pre Accelerator

The core of this program is to help Founders and Fellows, flesh out their ideas. This programming phase is designed to provide access to a rich portfolio of resources that will include mentorship, coaching, and community building.

iRISE Accelerator

This year-long accelerator gives Founders and Fellows hands-on experience by embedding them startup and tech transfer environments.

Founders

Selected participants will receive mentorship, coaching, training and education, free office space, reduced cost lab facilities, and financing.

Fellows

Selected participants will be equipped with proven strategies around building successful academic careers focused on transitioning research into new technologies, products, and companies.


All participants will be expected to be active and fully engaged in all programming for the duration of the 18-month cycle to qualify for the opportunity to be considered for funding as either a Founder or Fellow. If selected the Founder or Fellow will receive a direct investment from iRISE to cover salary expenses, rent, and other startup costs.
