Tonight: Celebrate 40 years of the Science Center’s Esther Klein Gallery

The University City Science Center is taking a look at how the Esther Klein Gallery has linked art and science over the past four decades with a retrospective exhibit. Four decades — that means the gallery is almost as old as the Science Center, which had its fiftieth birthday a few years ago.

This Thursday at 5 p.m., the Science Center is hosting a closing ceremony for the exhibit Art at the Science Center: A 40-Year Retrospective at the gallery , which kicked off in December. Pieces from the gallery’s permanent collection and archives will remain on display until Friday. Both the reception and the exhibit are open to the public. The gallery is at 3600 Market Street.

To date, the art center has supported some 3,500 local, national and international artists through solo and group exhibits showcasing the common ground between art and science.

“[The gallery’s] positive impact on the cultural life of our immediate neighborhood of West Philadelphia and the broader community proves the experiment’s success,” said the Science Center’s CEO Stephen Tang in a press release.

This exhibition is curated by artist Angela McQuillan of the Science Center.
