After Lia Diagnostics was accepted into the Science Center’s Digital Health Accelerator (DHA) program, the awards and recognition started piling on….First Prize at TechCrunch Disrupt Berlin, Fast Company’s 2018 World Changing Ideas Award Winner in the Health Category, and TIME’s 50 best inventions in 2018.
One of the reasons why Lia is revolutionizing the home pregnancy test market? It is 100% biodegradable and designed to be flushed or composted. This breakthrough design helps to reduce some of the 2 million pounds of plastics that conventional pregnancy tests waste each year in the United States - not to mention it gives women a level of privacy than before.
The DHA supports digital health companies’ commercialization efforts, transitioning from research and development to sales and partnerships. Through the program, selected companies are provided funding, collaborative workspace, professional mentorship, and introductions to key healthcare stakeholders and investors in the Greater Philadelphia region. These introductions and relationships help companies like Lia build on their ideas, and ultimately lay the groundwork for product launch.
Lia joins a long list of successful graduates from the DHA, which includes BioMeme, Tissue Analytics, UE LIfeSciences, Oncora Medical, PainQx, The One Health Company, and Pulse Infoframe just to name a few. 17 of the 20 DHA graduates remain in business, creating over 180 jobs, $21 million in revenue, and $47 million in follow-on funding, with two exits. It’s truly exciting to see our goal of helping companies grow and scale become a reality.
